Your Decorating Roadmap

Seven steps that turn a blank or busy room into a home you exhale in.

  1. 1

Walk every room with a phone camera

Photograph what's there. The lens shows you what your eyes politely ignore.

  2. 2

Pick one room to fix first

Resist the urge to redo the whole house. Pick the room you sit in most.

  3. 3

Choose a palette of three warm colors

One main, one supporting, one accent. Pull them from a textile you already love.

  4. 4

    Edit before you add

Remove anything that doesn't earn its spot. The room will feel new before you spend a dollar.

  5. 5

    Use the 3-lamp lighting rule

    Overhead + mid-height + table-height. Every room. Always.

  6. 6

    Layer in textiles before furniture

Curtains, rugs, throws first. They soften lines and absorb sound.

  7. 7

Live with it for a week, then edit again

The most important step. Almost no one does it. Your room will thank you.
